Valtellina Track
5 km. and 7.5km. ‘VALTELLINA’ COMPETITION TRACK
The S. Caterina competition track is the sports centre with the greatest tradition in Valtellina. In recent years numerous World Cup competitions have taken place here and in particular the two World Cup Finals 2001 and 2008. The climatic conditions in S. Caterina allow this resort which has been host for more than 30 years to the first Italian Cup competition in November to prolong the season until Easter.
The layout of the competition track has been smoothed out over the years under the capable eye of Benito Moriconi, trainer of the great champion Manuela di Centa, (who built up most of her successes on this track), with original, revolutionary and above all entertaining technical solutions. The altitude between 1,740 and 1820 mts. above sea level, the special position and layout guarantee perfect conditions starting from November until the end of March, thanks also to programmed artificial snow system and careful daily maintenance.
‘LA FONTE’ TOURISTIC TRACK Km. 1.5 – 2.00 – 3.00 – 5.00 – 8.00
The track for touristic use called ‘La Fonte’ lies in a spectacular natural environment dominated by the great pyramid of the Pizzo Tresero, Monte Pasquale and Cevedale. The itinerary is of an easy level, with detours of medium difficulty unwinding over the S. Caterina plain, with amusing ascents and descents among the thick pinewoods through a fairyland countryside, everybody of any age can feel enthusiasm on this ring itinerary. At the centre of the ski stadium you can find an equipped schooling area open to everybody where you can take your first steps in perfect tranquillity and safety.
